Last year the Maine Legislature asked its State Planning Office to recommend changes to the State’s Growth Management Act governing development in the state. The Office, seeking to maximize public input about a controversial law, asked me to convene a forum in Open Space. The surprisingly successful event, at which 125 supporters and opponents of the Act worked together over two days in a self-organizing format to create proposals for change, was featured as a case in the Massachusetts chapter newsletter of the American Planning Association. Read it HERE.

I enjoy using my talents to help keep the planet green. Here are two examples:
Natick Center Associates asked me to design a two evening public forum, attended by about 80 people each night, to apply Smart Growth principles to future development in downtown Natick. What’s a Smart Growth principle? One is: “Create Walkable Neighborhoods.“ Read all ten HERE.
The Mount Agamenticus to the Sea Conservation Initiative is a successful collaboration of ten conservation agencies, nonprofits, and land trusts working to protect 48,000 acres in Southeastern Maine. With an ambitious first phase already successfully behind them, they’ve asked me to help them envision a preferred future of continued collaboration.
How important is a vivid image of a positive future? It’s a matter of life and death, says long time client Stonyfield Farm. To see their remarkable four-minute documentary, set in 2055, telling how the world averted catastrophe and prevented global warming, watch HERE.
I was so inspired I bought renewable energy credits to offset the carbon emissions from my home and car. Help stop global warming and become carbon neutral today at: http://www.nativeenergy.com/ or http://www.carbonfund.org/

Stephen Covey, author of the classic Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, recommends investing regularly in personal renewal - what he calls “sharpening the saw.” In this spirit I’ll be attending a 17-day meditation retreat in Patmos, Greece this June.
