Recent Writings...

Small companies need focus and rhythm to stay on track during periods of rapid, intense growth. Nothing focuses the mind quite like boiling down one’s entire strategic plan to a single page. It takes great courage to say absolutely yes to what matters, and absolutely no to everything else. I write about the brutal discipline of drafting one-page strategic plans for fast growth companies in an article published at www.RoundOne.com, the web resource for early stage entrepreneurs.

Recent Client Work...

Stonyfield FarmThrough my long time relationship with Gary Hirshberg and Stonyfield Farms, I’ve developed a thriving consulting niche in the dynamic natural and organic foods marketplace. Clients include Stonyfield, Stonyfield Europe, Applegate Farms, Annie’s Homegrown, Equal Exchange, Sterling-Rice Group, Global Organics, the Organic Trade Association, and ProOrganics Marketing. All these companies are doing well by doing good!

Applegate FarmsImagine building a fast growth company while coming to the office only one day a week! That’s just what Steve McDonnell, CEO of Applegate Farms, has done. His unconventional “remote control” management style is profiled in the October 2005 issue of Inc. Magazine, and includes a few of my observations. Applegate Farms, thanks to its courageous management team, has enjoyed double-digit growth during the four great years I’ve worked with them.
